US Knife Laws By State

"US Knife Laws By States" (each state is Significantly Different)
  1. Alabama:
    Legal to own a knife.
  2. Alaska:
    Legal to own a knife; Gravity knives and switchblades. And you're supposed to tell a cop you're carrying a knife if he stops you.
  3. Arizona:
    Legal to own a knife; Tell a cop if you're carrying one.
  4. Arkansas:
    Legal to own a knife.
  5. California:
    Legal to own a knife; No dirks, daggers, stilettos or ballistic knives. No undetectable knives.
  6. Los Angeles:
    Illegal to own a knife.
  7. Colorado:
    Legal to own a knife; Don't conceal anything over 3.5 inches. No ballistic knives.
  8. Connecticut:
    Legal to own a knife; No automatics or stilettos over 1.5 inches. You can't carry anything over 4 inches.
  9. Delaware:
    Legal to own a knife; The only knives you can conceal are pocket knives of 3 inches or less.
  10. Florida:
    Legal to own a knife; If you're going to conceal it, make it 4 inches or less.
  11. Georgia:
    Legal to own a knife; If it's over 5 inches, you need weapons permit if you want to conceal it.
  12. Hawaii:
    Legal to own a knife; No switchblades.
  13. Idaho:
    Legal to own a knife.
  14. Illinois:
    Legal to own a knife; No switchblades, throwing knives or ballistic knives.
  15. Chicago:
    Legal to own a knife; Keep it under 2.5 inches.
  16. Indiana:
    Legal to own a knife; It's illegal, ninja stars.
  17. Iowa:
    Legal to own a knife, but you're not supposed to conceal anything over 5 inches or a dagger or switchblade or can knife.
  18. Kansas:
    Legal to own a knife; It's illegal, for throwing stars or ballistic knives.
  19. Kentucky:
    Legal to own a knife.
  20. Louisiana:
    Legal to own a knife; No switchblades.
  21. Maine:
    Illegal to carry daggers, stilettos or "knives designed for harming others."
  22. Maryland:
    Legal to own a knife; It's illegal to conceal a throwing star, dirk, switchblade, gravity knife or Bowie.
  23. Massachusetts:
    Legal to own a knife; It's illegal for switchblades, dirks, stilettos, ballistic knives or ones with knuckle guards.
  24. Michigan:
    Legal to own a knife; Don't conceal carry.
  25. Minnesota:
    Legal to own a knife; It's illegal no except for switchblades.
  26. Mississippi:
    Legal to own a knife; It's illegal if you're a minor or a convicted felon.
  27. Missouri:
    Legal to own a knife; No switchblades.
  28. Montana:
    Legal to own a knife; Don't conceal anything over 4 inches.
  29. Nebraska:
    Legal to own a knife; It's illegal for a felon to own a knife.
  30. Nevada:
    Legal to own a knife; illegal belt buckle knives.
  31. New Hampshire:
    Legal to own a knife.
  32. New Jersey:
    Legal to own a knife; except a switchblade.
  33. New Mexico:
    Legal to own a knife; No switchblades or butterfly knives.
  34. New York:
    Illegal to own a knife; You can't own a knife unless you're a US Citizen. A law currently being violated at every restaurant in the state. And no one's supposed to have anything scary like a switchblade, throwing star or sword.
  35. New York City:
    Illegal to own a knife; No gravity knives. No knives over 4 inches.
  36. North Carolina:
    Legal to own a knife; illegal, Nothing that shoots its blades. Don't conceal carry a butcher knife, a bowie knife.
  37. North Dakota:
    Legal to own a knife; illegal, No concealing your machete, switchblade or anything else that's over 5 inches.
  38. Ohio:
    Legal to own a knife; illegal, just don't be a child playing with a toy gun in a park.
  39. Oklahoma:
    Legal to own a knife; illegal you can't conceal or open carry.
  40. Oregon:
    Legal to own a knife; Believes it violates your 2nd amendment rights to tell you what knives you can have or carry.
  41. Pennsylvania:
    Legal to own a knife; It's illegal to own a dagger, automatic knife or sword cane. You can't open or conceal anything scary, including hunting knives.
  42. Rhode Island:
    Legal to own a knife; illegal, don't conceal anything over 3 inches.
  43. South Carolina:
    Legal to own a knife; Own and carry anything you want, any way you want.
  44. South Dakota:
    Legal to own a knife.
  45. Tennessee:
    Legal to own a knife; You can't carry anything over 4 inches.
  46. Texas:
    Legal to own a knife; No gravity knives.
  47. Utah:
    Legal to own a knife; Illegal if you've been convicted of a variety of loose criminal charges including delinquency.
  48. Vermont:
    Legal to own a knife; Illegal all switchblades, if they're over 3 inches.
  49. Virginia:
    Legal to own any type of knife in Virginia, it is illegal to conceal anything.
  50. Washington:
    Legal to own a knife; Illegal to conceal anything.
  51. West Virginia:
    Legal to own a knife; Illegal to conceal anything. No switchblades
  52. Wisconsin:
    Legal to own a knife; Illegal to conceal anything.
  53. Wyoming:
    Legal to own a knife; Illegal to conceal anything.
